Logan Paul And Seth Rollins Must Enter World Title Picture

Logan Paul continued his ridiculously impressive WWE run with a show-stealing match against Seth Rollins on Saturday night at WrestleMania 39.

Though the YouTube star-turned-boxer-turned-wrestler lost to Rollins via a Super kick-Stomp combination on Night One of the two-night extravaganza, everyone involved in this rivalry came out a winner, including Rollins, Paul and WWE as a whole.

Rollins, whose name has to be brought up in the conversation about pro wrestling’s current greats, continued his trend of delivering epic in-ring performances. One of WWE’s most popular babyfaces, he’s put on incredible encounters with everyone from Paul to Brock Lesnar to Cody Rhodes. And Paul? Well, Paul shouldn’t be anywhere as near as good as he is given his experience level and the fact that he’s not a classically trained pro wrestler.

But this was the third time that Paul had a fanastic singles match in as many tries, and despite being pinned by Rollins, both stars should be entering the world title picture. Like, right now.

With Roman Reigns possibly taking an extended break from WWE after WrestleMania 39 and likely dropping the Undisputed Universal titles tomorrow night against Cody Rhodes, now is the ideal time for WWE to capatalize on the momentum Rollins and Paul have by immediately elevating them into the world title picture.

Assuming, of course, that Rhodes emerges as world champion and The Bloodline members split off into varying storylines, Rhodes will need a new challenger, and WWE may have two world titles once again, potentially creating even more space at the top of the card for WWE’s borderline main eventers.

Prior to WWE deciding to go with Reigns vs. Rhodes, Rollins was—along with Rhodes and Drew McIntyre—reportedly set to be involved in one world title match, with Reigns vs. The Rock as the dream scenario in the other. While that obviously didn’t happen, WWE is planning on having two top world titles once again in time for SummerSlam, meaning that fringe main eventers like Rollins and Paul should be salivating.

In fact, WWE apparently has already created a new title belt, though isn’t totally clear whether it’s a brand new belt, a unified one or something else together. But all indications are that once The Bloodline crumbles—possibly as soon as tomorrow—WWE will have no real reason to stick with just one world champion moving forward.

Rhodes, the strong favorite to be world champion in about 24 hours, has already said he’s open to splitting the world titles up again, and truth be told, it’s a necessity at this stage. As great as Reigns’ dominant run as champion has been, one of the biggest drawbacks of his reign of terror is that it has severely limited the opportunity for advancement for guys who are typically above the midcard but not necessarily always in the world title scene.

While that has helped restore the prestige of the Intercontinental and United States title under Triple H’s booking, that hasn’t always been the case. Oftentimes, those stars like Rollins, Paul, Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and other world champion-material type stars have sort of been stuck in no man’s land without any substantial storyline to sink their teeth into.

That stops now. Well, at least it should.

At WrestleMania 39, Paul and Rollins put their names at the top of the list of potential world champions in the short term, whether that be for the WWE, Universal or Undisputed Championship or something new together.

With Reigns potentially leaving for a while and WWE viewership bound to take a hit if and when he’s gone after Mania, the intrigue surrounding the possible creation of a new world title and/or Paul and Rollins pursuing one could keep viewers around at a time when they traditionally tune out.

Although Paul has said his WWE contract expires at WrestleMania 39, WWE announced when Paul first signed last year that it was a “multi-year” contract, so the ideal situation is that Paul is just being a heel—heels lie, after all—and that both he and Rollins will be catapulted up the card starting this Monday on Raw.
