Adidas Unveils Apparel Line Celebrating Women’s Golf Community As Zhang Stars In Augusta

As the Augusta National Women’s Amateur took center stage this week, adidas Golf unveiled a new apparel collection entirely inspired and designed by women at the company.

The collection, which incorporates the print of an amaryllis flower meant to symbolize self-confidence and dedication, is scheduled to be officially released on April 5 – a day before the start of The Masters, the first men’s major golf championship of the season, at Augusta National. Named the “Our [Fair]way Floral Collection” to reemphasize the brand’s commitment to female golfers and female presence within the sport, it will be available on the adidas website and app as well as at select retailers nationwide.

Rose Zhang, the world’s No. 1-ranked women’s amateur, is wearing pieces from the collection as she pursues a title at the ANWA.

“It’s rare that a brand is so committed to female golfers and the women’s game and that’s something I’ve noticed adidas is all-in on,” said Zhang, who takes a five-shot lead into Saturday’s final round at Augusta National. “I’m proud to wear the collection this week because it celebrates and inspires the amazing community of women that love this sport.”

Females now account for one-quarter of all golfers, matching the highest representation on record, according to the National Golf Foundation. The junior ranks are even more diverse, with girls making up 36% of participants. Over the past three years, NGF on-course participation data shows the female golfer population has risen by over 800,000.

“We can’t speak to specific sales figures, but over the past several years we’ve experienced significant growth across our women’s range, especially in apparel where we’ve held the No. 1 market share position in the U.S. for 27 consecutive months,” said adidas Golf global director of apparel Shaun Madigan. “It’s inspiring to see how many women are hitting the range or asking other women to go play. It’s becoming more accessible on all accounts, and we’re excited to be a part of the progress.”

The team at adidas began conceptualizing and designing the collection in the fall of 2021, driven by conversations with the brand’s female athletes, influencers and internal teams. Among those most heavily involved in the conception, design and production process were adidas Golf director of apparel design Jennie Ko, senior apparel designer Larissa Grashian and senior product manager for women’s apparel Michelle Mulligan.

“We hope this inspires others to join us on the journey in celebrating the women’s golf community,” Ko said.

Limited edition runs and special collections aren’t uncommon this time of year, with spring weather creeping into parts of the country and the start to the golf season very much tied into the Masters for many recreational golfers. That isn’t lost on those at adidas, recently recognized again as one of the top 100 businesses in golf.

“This is really the time of year when more people play recreationally and as a result are looking to freshen-up their on-course wardrobe,” added Madigan. “It’s really the unofficial ‘kick off’ to the season, so this was a conscious choice to highlight a women’s story and to support it at two of the biggest events for both women’s and men’s golf.”

In the coming week, adidas male athletes will wear also wear a men’s version of the floral polo as a show of support during select days at the Masters.
