Paris Saint Germain Offer Lionel Messi ‘More Money And More Years’ To Stay And Snub FC Barcelona

Paris Saint Germain have offered Lionel Messi an improved salary and the chance to stay at the club for more years than just
just
the additional season previously being discussed, Mundo Deportivo has reported.

Messi signed for the Parisians in the summer of 2021, when walking from boyhood club FC Barcelona on a free transfer as the Catalans could not navigate a strict La Liga salary cap.

L’Equipe reported at the time that the Argentine had put pen to paper on a two-year deal that paid him €30 million ($32.6 million) per season and came with the option of an additional term at the Parc des Princes.

Messi is stalling on putting pen to paper, and the same French sports outlet reported this week that there is “growing pessimism” he will do so because of the need to balance Financial Fair Play.

According to L’Equipe, Messi is third on the list of France’s biggest monthly earners with €3.375 million ($3.7 million). Topping the list was the leader of Forbes’ 2022 list of the World Highest-Paid Soccer Players, Kylian Mbappe, who takes home €6 million ($6.5 million) monthly as Neymar finished in second place on €3.675 million ($4 million).

SPORT reported earlier this month that PSG would offer Messi an improved contract extension on the orders of the Emir of Qatar who wants to renew the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner “at all costs”.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Qatar have already sent Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi a message that he can earn more money at the Parc des Princes if he wishes, and also more years than just the “plus one” agreed in 2021.

That proposal can already be signed now according to MD, and Doha is putting pressure on the World Cup champion to put pen to paper.

Simultaneously, it is also possible that Messi calls time on his European career altogether and heads back over the Atlantic to Inter Miami in the MLS, or ventures south from the French capital and rejoins FC Barcelona.

Given their debts and related financial woes, however, Barca can only make a return of their greatest ever player happen if Messi agrees to receive a reduced salary and then the proceeds from his farewell match or merchandising as reported by El Nacional.
