The Stitch brand is rooted in golf, but many of the company’s design elements are inspired by the passion for vintage cars shared by founder Charlie Burgwyn and CEO Brad King.
The Stitch logo, in fact, pays tribute to the Gulf Oil Racing Team’s iconic logo, which is light blue and orange, with pops of navy.
Now in its second decade, Stitch has introduced two new golf bag patterns as part of the revamp of its customizable Luxe MIY component collection, both influenced by custom car interiors. The Speedway Plaid and Bridgehampton Woven custom bags, which start at about $450, are inspired by handwoven Italian seating and incorporate Stitch’s brand colors.
“Stitch is a blend of vintage and modern,” said King, noting that the company’s golf bags are created in the mold of Superlegerra cars, which got their name from the Italian word for “superlight” and are also known to be strong and durable. The proprietary material used to make the Stitch bags has the look of leather but is more durable and resistant.
The brand, which initially focused on custom headcovers, has since expanded to travel bags and a full line of apparel in addition to bags, and can now be found in over 500 country clubs. And, as detailed in the company’s history, the first large order that was ever placed with Stitch — one that gave the business’s backers confirmation that they had found a niche — just so happens to have been from a well-known club in Augusta, Georgia. One that might be hosting a major event very soon.
