J-Hope’s new single “On the Street” with J. Cole jumps to the top of several Billboard charts this week, earning him a handful of new leaders. The tune reaches No. 1 on two different rankings–the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and the Rap Digital Song Sales lists.
This is a major accomplishment for J-Hope, and it has helped him tie with one of his BTS bandmates in Billboard’s ever-changing history books.
“On the Street” is J-Hope’s second No. 1 single on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, which is extremely rare for non-American acts, especially South Korean musicians. With this new win, J-Hope has tied with his BTS friend Suga as the only two South Korean acts to reach the summit more than once.
J-Hope first hit the peak position on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart last year with his single “Arson,” which wasted no time in reaching the top. With the success of “On the Street,” he has now doubled his career sum, cementing his status as a chart-topping artist in the rap genre.
Suga was the first South Korean musician to place several songs at No. 1 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. He made history in 2020 as the first artist matching that description to do so when his single “Daechwita” became the first song in Korean to reach the top spot on the ranking. He added another champion to his total when “Girl of My Dreams,” a collaboration with the late Juice Wrld, conquered the list in 2021.
“On the Street” narrowly missed the top spot on the sales-only ranking last week, debuting at No. 2 instead behind Nicki Minaj’s “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” That tune was also the bestselling of any genre in the nation at the time. Now, that track has fallen slightly on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, leaving room at the top for J-Hope’s latest hit.
Amazingly, “On the Street” also grants J. Cole his first leader on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. He had previously risen as high as No. 2 with “Middle Child,” but somehow never ruled. This latest collaboration also grants the star his twenty-fifth top 10 smash on the ranking.
