Ukraine could have thrown out Putin’s invading armies many months ago if the U.S. and NATO had lavishly supplied it with the needed weaponry, including fighter aircraft, from the get-go.
In fact, if not for the critical role Poland has been playing since the war began, Russia would be in a far stronger position today. This episode of What’s Ahead praises the Poles for helping to create the “pipeline” that’s getting so much weaponry and other materiel into Ukraine, and for relentlessly pressuring Washington and others to supply more and better arms and ammunition to Kyiv’s fighting forces.
Thanks to Warsaw, Ukraine is getting badly needed tanks from Germany, and will eventually be getting Abrams tanks from the U.S. Against Washington’s wishes, Poland is providing another wartime necessity: fighter aircraft.
Poland recognizes the true and urgent stakes of this war. It’s too bad for the world’s future security that the U.S., Germany, France and others don’t share this urgency.
