Providence is set to hire George Mason’s Kim English as its next men’s basketball coach, multiple people with knowledge of the situation said.
English, 34, will take over after Ed Cooley jumped from Providence to Big East rival Georgetown on Monday. Cooley was set to be introduced at a press conference on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
English went 34-29 in two seasons at George Mason, finishing 20-13 last season and 11-7 in the Atlantic 10, but is considered a rising star in the coaching ranks.
Two players have already decommitted from Providence in the Class of 2023, including big man Drew Fielder and guard Garway Duel.
English will be the second new coach in the Big East next season along with the addition of Hall of Famer Rick Pitino at St. John’s.
