CNN had its lowest-rated week in more than seven years last week, as the network’s ratings struggles continue. For the week ending March 12, CNN had an average weekday audience of 409,000 viewers, the lowest total day (6 a.m. to 6 a.m. ET) ratings performance since the week of July 6, 2015. Fox News Channel won the week with 1.359 million viewers, followed by MSNBC (673,000 viewers).
Among viewers 25-54, the demographic group most valued by advertisers, CNN’s total day ratings delivery was 81,000 viewers—which represents the lowest rated week in the key demo since 2014. Fox News won the week with an average audience of 172,000 viewers, and MSNBC was third overall with 71,000 viewers.
Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight was the highest-rated show in cable news for the week, with an average total audience of 3.568 million viewers, followed by The Five (3.077 million viewers), Jesse Watters Primetime (2.695 million viewers), Hannity (2.645 million viewers) and Special Report with Bret Baier (2.266 million viewers)—all airing on the Fox News Channel.
In the key demo, Tucker Carlson Tonight was first with 469,000 viewers, followed by The Five (330,000 viewers), Hannity (317,000 viewers), Jesse Watters Primetime (277,000 viewers) and Special Report with Bret Baier (245,000 viewers).
Overall, Fox News dominated prime time with an average audience of 2.237 million viewers, outdistancing not just CNN and MSNBC but all other cable networks. MSNBC was third overall with an average total audience of 1.088 million viewers, and CNN landed in 17th place with 442,000 viewers. In the key demo, Fox News was first in cable news with 274,000 viewers, followed by MSNBC (108,000 viewers) and CNN (95,000 viewers).
In the morning show ratings race, FNC’s Fox & Friends once again cruised to victory with an average total audience of 1.230 million viewers, followed by MSNBC’s Morning Joe (808,000 viewers) and CNN’s struggling CNN This Morning (337,000 viewers). In the key demo, Fox & Friends was first with 177,000 viewers, followed by Morning Joe (97,000 viewers) and CNN This Morning (69,000 viewers).
