Key Background
Snow will continue to fall at a rate of two to three inches an hour in some places Tuesday, after a powerful storm struck the East Coast bringing wind gusts that could reach up to 50 miles per hour and the risk of coastal flooding to some areas in southern Connecticut and Long Island, New York, the Weather Channel said. The severe weather conditions have prompted New York Gov. Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency Monday, mobilizing the National Guard to assist with the response. Due to the high winds, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu asked construction companies to secure cranes and other equipment, according to the New York Times. In areas like Albany, New York, the National Weather Service expects 16 inches of snow to fall. Meanwhile in Massachusetts, the NWS is predicting one to two feet of snow in the western part of the state. NWS warned Tuesday the weather conditions would “produce dangerous to impossible travel.”
