Cleveland Cavaliers Announce Bow Tie Night In Support Of Individuals And Families Affected By Neurofibromatosis

On March 15, when the Cleveland Cavaliers host the Philadelphia 76ers, they will be raising for a cause that hits close to home.

Cavs-76ers has been dubbed “Cavs Bow Tie Night” to raise funds for NF Forward, “an organization committed to advancing research to benefit individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis (NF).” NF, which affects 1 in 3,000 people is dedicated to Nick Gilbert, the son of Cavs owner Dan Gilbert. Nick — who famously wore a bow tie when representing the Cavs at the draft lottery in 2011 when he was 14.

“We are honored to stand behind Nick and the millions around the world who battle neurofibromatosis. As a Cavaliers family, we celebrate the strength and resilience these individuals demonstrate every day and shine a spotlight on the trailblazing research being funded by our partners and friends at NF Forward,” said Nic Barlage, Cleveland Cavaliers, Rock Entertainment Group and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse CEO. “Throughout our season, we have heard stories from coast to coast about what this dedication has meant to those affected by NF. With this special night, we hope to give our supportive fans the opportunity to join us in making a meaningful impact in the fight against this illness.”

Fans can donate to NF Forward by going to cavs.com/bowtie or buying a 50/50 raffle ticket at the the game. Each dollar raised by the Cavs and the Gilbert Family Foundation. The team will also sell a wine and gold bow tie lapel pin for $5 both at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and online. Proceeds from the pin will go to NF Forward as well. The pin currently appears on the player warm-up jackets and on the lapels of broadcasters, Cavs coaches and front office members.

“We are so grateful to the entire Cavs organization for their continued support of our pursuit to end neurofibromatosis, especially through their Bow Tie Campaign,” said Kayleigh Roy, Director of NF Forward. “Cavs Bow Tie Night will ensure that we can continue our full-court press on the most common of rare diseases, and provide hope for current and future generations of those enduring neurofibromatosis.”

Cavs-76ers tips off at 7:30 p.m.
