Today’s Wordle #626 Hint, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, March 7th

It’s Wordle time, folks! The word puzzle game that just won’t quit remains one of my favorite daily diversions, especially since I’ve turned it into a competitive challenge against the New York Times Wordle Bot (and then a challenge for you, dearest Wordlers, against me—see below).

I suppose it’s one diversion among many. My hobbies include:

• Playing video games like Call Of Duty, Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring and now Wo Long Dynasty.
• Watching shows like Slow Horses, Better Call Saul, The Legend Of Vox Machina and White Lotus.
• Reading books like The Blacktongue Thief, The Blade Itself, the Jack Reacher novels and The Lord Of The Rings.
• Going to the gym, yoga, going on hikes and lately, shoveling boatloads of snow!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: This popular Netflix character, with a roommate named Todd, a rival named Mr. Peanutbutter and an agent named Carolyn, is one.

The Clue: There are more consonants than vowels in this word.

Today is a prime example of man vs machine going in favor of man. This man, in particular, and for a reason I’ll go into shortly.

My opening guess, cairn, is one that I see Wordle Bot using a lot in the #2 spot and I figured, why not try it as an opener? Alas, it left me with 263 possible solutions.

Fortunately, my next guess was fire. Roast toppled that 263 leaving just two possible choices: horse and worse. And here is where even a forgetful human like me—and I am extremely forgetful!—had an edge over Wordle Bot.

You see, the Bot went with worse. As you can see in the above image, it admits that it would have guessed this instead, and indeed it did today, guessing slate / mourn / worse / horse. I, on the other hand, recalled that just about a week ago, for Wordle #618, the answer to the Wordle was worse. I remember because it was so recent and my hint—not better—so very, very basic. With that knowledge in hand, I knew that the answer had to be horse.

This means I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot for a grand total of 2 points. Bwahahahaha! I’m king of the Wordle!

I asked ChatGPT to educate us on the etymology of “horse” and this is what the Bot told me:

Play Competitive Wordle Against Me!

I’ve been playing a cutthroat game of PvP Wordle against my nemesis Wordle But. Now you should play against me! I can be your nemesis! (And your helpful Wordle guide, of course).

Here are the rules:

• 1 point for getting the Wordle in 3 guesses.
• 2 points for getting it in 2 guesses.
• 3 points for getting it in 1 guess.
• 1 point for beating Erik
• 0 points for getting it in 4 guesses.
• -1 point for getting it in 5 guesses.
• -2 points for getting it in 6 guesses.
• -3 points for losing.
• -1 point for losing to Erik

Your best game would be a hole in 1 (3 points) and beating me (1 point) for 4 total. Your worst would be failing to guess the correct answer (-3 points) and losing to me (-1) point for a -4 total. These are outlier scores, however. Usually my worst is a -2 and my best a +2.
