TelevisaUnivision kicks off its run as the host of the Latin American Music Awards. The network today announced the date and venue for the 8th annual Latin AMAs. Under the theme “Somos Un Movimiento” (We Are a Movement), the show will take place Thursday, April 20 at 7/6c live from the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on Univision.
The network also revealed that it would expand the reach of the Latin AMA “beyond a stand-alone event” with additional related programming leading up to awards night that will air on sister network Unimás. That includes pre-show Noche de Estrellas and a series of one-hour TV specials such as Pase VIP, a behind-the-scenes look at popular performers Camilo, Christian Nodal, Grupo Firme, Ozuna, and TINI on their latest tours – De Adentro Pa Afuera Tour, Forajido Tour, Enfiestados y Amanecidos Tour, Ozutochi Tour, and Tini Tour, set to start on March 7 at 7 pm ET.
The nominees will be announced live March 13 at 6 pm ET on Latin AMAs: Nominaciones, exclusively on Unimás and on April 4 at 7 pm ET, Latin AMAs: Legacy will celebrate some of Latin music’s biggest icons, showing unique content and musical performances.
TelevisaUnivision acquired the rights to the Latin AMAs from Dick Clark Productions in 2022. Rival Telemundo had held the broadcast rights since 2015. That year’s inaugural show, held in Los Angeles, reached 3.8 million viewers, giving Telemundo yearly audience boosts as it showcased some of the industry’s top celebrities and explored incorporating digital technology, like a Wisin performance in a 360° livestream for Facebook Live, a VR and 360 app.
The show was based in Los Angeles until it was halted in 2020 due to the pandemic. Telemundo brought the Latin AMAs back to life the following year, moving the date from October to April 15, 2021 and switching locations to Miami, where the network has its headquarters. Last year, it moved the show to Las Vegas.
