$9,000 Is Average Price Ticket For Chiefs-Eagles—Second Most Expensive Ever

Topline

Tickets to the Super Bowl soared to an average price of nearly $9,000 on the secondary market, according to TicketiQ, making Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles the second most expensive Super Bowl in NFL history.

Key Facts

The most expensive lower-level midfield seat costs $41,523 according to ticket data company TicketiQ, which has been tracking NFL ticket prices since 2010.

The cheapest seat still costs $5,707—down 9% since Sunday as more inventory becomes available on the secondary market—while the least expensive seat in the lower level costs $6,324.

The average price of $8,837 makes Sunday’s game in Glendale, Arizona, the second most expensive since TicketiQ started tracking NFL prices, only behind the 2021 reduced-capacity Super Bowl between the Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when tickets on the secondary market averaged just over $12,000.

What We Don’t Know

Whether the price of tickets will continue to drop if more become available. Over the past week, the average price has dropped slightly from $9,720, while the cheapest seat available—called the get-in price—has narrowly decreased from $5,948 to $5,581. Over the past eight seasons, tickets on the secondary market have typically been cheapest closer to the big game, despite fans tending to rush to purchase tickets well ahead of time. Last year, the cheapest day to buy them was two days before Super Bowl Sunday, while in 2021, 2018, 2013, 2012 and 2010, they were cheapest on the day of the game.

Big Number

3,400. That’s how many tickets are left on the secondary market to Sunday’s game at State Farm Stadium, the regular season home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, which has a capacity of 63,400.

Key Background

It’s not just the Super Bowl that’s driving fans to pay more. The Eagles’ NFC Championship game last month against the San Francisco 49ers set a championship round record with tickets topping $2,000 and the cheapest available seats ahead of the game on the secondary market still costing nearly $700. One week earlier, the 49ers’ game against the Dallas Cowboys broke a divisional round record with the average ticket price surpassing $1,400 on the secondary market, while the Eagles’ game that round against the New York Giants fell just short of the record, at $1,106, making it the second most expensive divisional round game in NFL history.
