Everything You Need To Know About The Marvel Star’s Recovery

Jeremy Renner is lucky to be alive. The Hawkeye star was run over by his PistenBully—a 14,330 lb snow-plow—on New Year’s Day near his home in Reno, NV near Lake Tahoe. The actor was helping a family member who was stuck in the snow when the PistenBully began to roll away. When he attempted to get back into the vehicle, he was crushed beneath it suffering serious injuries in the process.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent two surgeries and remains in critical, but stable condition. He suffered “blunt force chest trauma and orthopaedic injuries” according to Renner’s rep. According to witnesses, the actor was struggling to breathe when emergency services arrived at the scene.

In a statement on Monday, the actor’s rep said, “Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hillary Schieve and the Carano and Murdock families. They are also tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve told the Reno Gazette-Journal on Monday that Renner “is always helping others.”

24 hours after he was flown to the hospital, Renner posted his first update on Instagram, thanking everyone “for your kind words. I’m too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”

Fans, celebrities and colleagues responded with an outpouring of support for the Mayor Of Kingstown star. Among these well-wishers: the trio of Chris’s from the MCU.

“Speedy recovery buddy. Sending love your way!” Chris Hemsworth wrote on Instagram. Chris Evans called his co-star “tough as nails” and Chris Pratt said “Continued prayers your way brutha.”

On Thursday, Renner posted a video of himself along with his sister and mother in the hospital to both Instagram and Twitter.

“A “not no great” ICU DAY, turned to amazing spa day with my sis and mama. Thank you sooooo much” he wrote on Twitter.

The video is a happy and playful one, though Renner looks incredibly beat up and is shown breathing through an oxygen mask.

This type of heavy machinery is extremely dangerous to operate and even those with experience, which Renner clearly has, run the risk of getting into an accident, especially in winter conditions. Even smaller winter vehicles like snowmobiles are extremely prone to accidents. The moral of the story: Be vigilant and stay safe when operating heavy machinery or going out on sports vehicles!
