Amazon Freevee To Debut First-Ever Nascar Documentary; Will Feature Kyle Busch In ‘Rowdy’

Amazon is delving into the Nascar world with its first-ever documentary that focuses on the sport. The subject: Nascar star Kyle Busch.

Rowdy, the name of the film, coincides with Busch’s nickname and energy drink brand. Available on AmazonAMZN
Freevee, formerly known as IMDb TV, the documentary will debut on Feb. 3.

The documentary will be available to stream for free via the Freevee app on Fire TV, Fire Tablets, as well as on the Amazon Prime Video app. Busch, a two-time Nascar Cup Series champion, has 60 career wins in the sport’s premier division. In 2023, he moves to Richard Childress Racing as he attempts to win the team its first championship since Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Busch, 37, is the ideal subject for a documentary given his unique place on the Nascar radar as arguably the most recognizable driver outside of the Nascar realm. Non-Nascar fans can recognize him thanks to his dominance on the track, his M&M’s cars over the past decade and a half, as well as his on-track controversies.

Busch’s wife, Samantha Busch, also became a national figure in recent years as she publicly shared her infertility struggles.

The Amazon Freevee film will feature interviews with Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jeff Gordon. Rowdy is produced by Wright Productions and Entertainment and Venture 10 Studio Group, along with Nascar Studios. Derek Daugherty, Garrett Graham, Hans Schiff, John Stevens, and Chance Wright are the executive producers, with Nascar’s Tim Clark, Tally Hair, and Matt Summers. Richard Valenzuela and JJ Terry direct the film.

It is unknown how this will impact Nascar’s next broadcast package. The current TV deal with NBC and Fox expires at the end of the 2024 season.

Amazon began streaming live sports in 2017 with Thursday Night Football, a NFL deal that continues today. The MLB, MLS, ONE Championship and the WNBA also have their own deals with Amazon Prime to stream live events.
