Joey Bosa, The Highest-Paid Los Angeles Charger, Is Off Injured Reserve And On The Prowl Again

The Los Angeles Charger, fresh from clinching their first playoff spot since 2018, got another dose of good news with defensive end Joey Bosa being activated off injured reserve.

Bosa, L.A.’s highest-paid player, was absent since suffering a groin injury, which required surgery, in Week 3. While he returned to practice on Thursday, his availability for the Chargers’ final two regular-season games will be determined.

The Chargers (9-6) face the L.A. Rams on Sunday before traveling to the Denver Broncos.

Bosa, a four-time Pro Bowler, will bolster a defense which has found another gear during the team’s two-game winning streak. He’ll be brought along slowing with the team already in the postseason and looking to make a deep in January.

The pairing of Pro Bowler Khalil Mack opposite of a healthy Bosa isn’t a comforting feeling for potential playoff foes.

The Chargers, whose 35 sacks rank No. 18 in the NFL, would relish production from Bosa. Their dividends on his five-year, $135 million deal this year are limited.

Bosa had 10.5 sacks last season, while missing but one game. He had 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble in two-plus contests before being sidelined.

Bosa in street clothes on game days is a painful observation for the Chargers as he leads L.A. in guaranteed money ($102 million), salary cap hit ($28.2 million) and average salary ($27 million).
