Trump ‘Card’ Loses Its Value

Donald Trump, the 45th American President, recently entered the NFT sector with the Trump Digital Trading Cards collection. The virtual tokens got sold out in an instant. The highest selling asset, Trump Digital Trading Card #5809, went for around 37 Ethereum. Currently, the collection had a trading volume of 6,340 ETH at the publication time.

On Saturday, its floor price peaked to 0.839 ETH but returned to a low of 0.34 ETH according to OpenSea. Currently, 4,619 NFTs from the collection are listed for sale with 35% unique owners holding the assets. 65% of holders have possession of at least 1 item, 24% own 2-3 items, 9% hold 4-10 items from the collection. The digital collectible has seen 22,925 sales since its inception.

According to The Daily Beast journalist, the NFTs in the collection are “ugly” even by normal standards. He also said that they may appear fraudulent by appearance but if the users have a chance to attend “Gala Dinner with Trump”. In 2019 the former US President said that he was not a fan of crypto assets, still he promoted the collection on Instagram with high spirits.

The virtual collection became a subject of satire on Saturday Night Live with James Austin Johnson portraying Donald Trump. He has previously been mimicked on SNL several times, most notably by Alec Baldwin. In an episode, the actor alongside Jim Carey (playing Joe Biden) recreated “first presidential debate”. The video dubbed “First Debate Cold Open” currently has 33 Million views on YouTube.

Recently, the former President announced that he will enter the presidential campaign in 2024. According to a poll, 34% of Americans think that Trump running for President is not a good thing. 55% believe that he has negatively influenced the Republican Party, meanwhile 37% think the opposite.

NFTs have attracted many celebrities before Trump including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Neymar Jr. and more. This makes the sector more attractive to the community. In August 2022, Eminem and Snoop Dogg put their Bored Ape NFT on a show during the MTV VMA award 2022.

Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, has previously invited Beeple, creator of Everydays NFT, on his show. He talked about the Bored Ape NFT he possesses during the episode. Recently, celebrities like Justin Beiber, Gwyneth Paltrow and more were sued due to allegedly promoting the collection, Billboard reported. The lawsuit claimed that they misled the buyers into acquiring the token by pumping its value.
