Comedian Jay Leno told Variety and NBC News on Monday he suffered “serious burns” from a gasoline fire, which prompted him to cancel an appearance Sunday as he reportedly sought medical attention.

Key Facts

Leno, 72, told Variety he is doing “okay,” but needs “a week or two to get back on my feet.”

People first reported Leno pulled out of a Sunday appearance at a conference in Las Vegas, and an email was sent out to attendees stating he experienced “a very serious medical emergency” and all that was known at the time was that “he is alive.”

On Monday, NBC News and TMZ reported that Leno—who is a car aficionado and has an extensive automobile collection—was burned Saturday when one of the vehicles in his Los Angeles garage unexpectedly erupted.

Forbes has reached out to Leno for comment.
