Kohl’s is coming in hot. For Black Friday, that is. The Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin-based retailer plans to give away more than $1 million in prizes in stores on Black Friday, and is starting a month of savings with an early access sale and a preview of a Black Friday ad.
The retailer will award prizes worth more than $1 million to in-store shoppers on November 25 as part of its TGIBF sweepstakes.
It’s no longer just Black Friday, the event has morphed into Black Friday Week at Kohl’s and other retailers. Kohl’s is also planning two days of Black Friday Flash sales. A Black Friday early access event begins today offering more days to save than before.
Kohl’s reported second quarter comparable sales decreased 7.7% and net sales decreased 8.5%, and second quarter diluted earnings per share of $1.11.
“Second quarter results were impacted by a weakening macro environment, high inflation and dampened consumer spending, which especially pressured our middle-income customers,” CEO Michelle Gass said in August. “We have adjusted our plans, implementing actions to reduce inventory and lower expenses to account for a softer demand outlook.”
Retailers across the price spectrum are hitting sales and promotions hard this year. With the Federal Reserve this week raising interest rates 0.75%, the fourth consecutive rate hike in 2022, economists expect consumers to pull back and retailers are trying every trick in the book to goose sales.
The first 200 Kohl’s customers at each store will have the chance to win one of thousands of prizes – from a family trip to LEGOLAND, to prizes from top brands including Shark, Ninja, Cuisinart, and Samsonite, as well as Sephora at Kohl’s gift cards and Kohl’s Cash.
