Marvel, Funko entered New Web3 collections at Comic Con NY 2022

  • An ultimate pop culture pilgrimage, NYC Comic Con 2022 was organised from October 6-9 at New York’s Javits Centre.
  • Almost 200,000 attired fans gathered to have a look at it. The booths were full of plush toys and posters, and many brands also included Web3 parts in their audience.
  • The purpose was to show how blockchain technology is accepted by mainstream accumulators.

Many fans were interested in the exclusive roundtable debates and seeing the creators of their preferred film and TV shows.

Krapopolis, the first animated series on the blockchain, is selling NFT dubbed “Krap Chickens,” through which one can experience real-world events, a digital viewing room for BTS content, etc. 3,000 of the 10,420 Krap Chickens have been sold already.

At the eBay booth, a forgotten superhero was also changed into an NFT collection

The original Slam-Girl collection, issued at Comic Con, shows a diversity of scenes of her struggling her four nemeses. It is also available on eBay, in partnership with NFT platform OneOf.

Slam-Girl was made in 2001, by comic star Stan Lee and art director Will Neugniot as a reconceptualization of the Peter Parker-styled Spiderman series.

The Augmented Reality

A largest exhibition at Comic Con was Veve, a marketplace for authorised virtual collectibles, and a mate of Marvel. Marvel’s first-ever comic book was sold for more than $2.4 million dollars in March. Now, with VeVe, that comic collectible can be seen in AR (Augmented reality).

It is among the most expensive physical comics in the world. Marvel has been authorising its cognitive property to Veve since June last year as a path to enter the Web3. Before this collaboration, Veve publicised its plans to be the initial carbon-neutral NFT platform, functioning on ImmutableX.

Veve’s communication manager, Rhys Skellern said “sustainability” is among the reasons for Marvel and Disney entering into virtual collectibles. “NFTs are more polished than making physical products,” he commented.

Funko at Web3

The night summed up with a theme party centred on Halloween hosted by Funko, which newly issued DC comics associated with NFTs.

Fans bought a particular $200 ticket and took a goodie bag full of Halloween themed Funko Pops, a poster and an NFT to which they can easily claim. The crowd varied from Funko lovers to resellers who targeted to sell these things on the secondary market. One fan said he swiftly made $1,100 by posting his items on a Facebook group.
