AEW Dynamite Beats WWE NXT In Tuesday Ratings War With 752,000 Viewers

AEW Dynamite defeated WWE NXT in last night’s Tuesday Night War per ShowBuzz Daily.

AEW Dynamite garnered 752,000 total viewers, down 23% from last week, with a 0.26 rating in the 18-49 demo. WWE NXT drew 676,000 viewers, down 8% from last week, with a 0.18 rating in the 18-49 demo.

Tuesday night marked the latest chapter in the WWE vs. AEW head-to-head rivalry, where AEW has had the edge. AEW Dynamite defeated WWE NXT in the majority of head-to-head matchups during the Wednesday Night Wars from 2019 to 2021, while AEW Rampage outpaced SmackDown on FS1 during their 30 minute head-to-head battle in the Friday Night War.

AEW President Tony Khan expressed his desire to be the top wrestling show on Tuesday night, while Triple H brushed off any notion of a competitive war between AEW and WWE. In reality, WWE NXT approached Tuesday’s broadcast with a very competitive spirit with one main roster star after another returning to NXT. WWE NXT featured appearances by Rhea Ripley, Sonya Deville, The Good Brothers, Shinsuke Nakamura, Shotzi, Raquel Rodriguez, Kevin Owens and Austin Theory.

WWE NXT vs. AEW Dynamite Ratings

  • AEW Dynamite Total Viewership | 752,000
  • AEW Dynamite 18-49 Viewership | 0.26
  • WWE NXT Total Viewership | 676,000
  • WWE NXT 18-49 Viewership | 0.18

AEW Dynamite, meanwhile, featured four championship matches with all four champions retaining. The main event between Jon Moxley and Hangman Adam Page was cut short due to a scary spot where Page suffered a concussion.

“Hangman Adam Page was taken tonight by medical personnel to a Cincinnati trauma center and diagnosed with a concussion. He was discharged, but will remain in AEW’s concussion protocol,” read a statement by AEW.

Dynamite was highlighted by another promo of the year contender from MJF, who had an emotional exchange with William Regal stemming from Regal’s days as a WWE scout. MJF unleashed a tirade due to Regal declining to recommend a 19-year-old MJF for a WWE contract. With MJF challenging Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship at Full Gear, the payoff could be anything from a full babyface turn to MJF and Regal joining forces as heels.

WWE has enjoyed all the momentum in the wrestling wars for the second half of 2022, dating back to the shocking retirement of Vince McMahon in July. WWE has since thrived in the Triple H Era, which has been defined by a litany of exciting returns and a resurgence in women’s wrestling. Since the start of the Triple H Era, anytime AEW commanded any type of buzz it was for the wrong reasons. AEW’s 2022 has been hampered with backstage drama, high-profile suspensions and frustrated talent. Desperate for momentum, a head-to-head victory over WWE is exactly what the promotion needed as it attempts to right the ship.

As he continues to put the pieces back together of a broken locker room, Khan recently re-signed locker room leaders Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho, who will also take on a backstage role as a producer.

For WWE, it’s another bitter pill to swallow for Triple H at the hands of AEW, though WWE can also take a moral victory as it played a hand in one of AEW’s biggest week-to-week drops of 2022.
