FC Barcelona Announce Drake As Real Madrid El Clasico Shirt Sponsor

FC Barcelona will use the logo of the popular singer Drake on their shirts for Sunday’s match against Real Madrid in El Clasico.

The move comes as part of celebrating Drake surpassing 50 billion streams on Spotify, which signed a four-year shirt sponsorship deal with Barca in May this year.

This type of exchange on the front of the Blaugrana’s jersey, replacing the Spotify logo with that of famous artists, will happen more as the 2022/2023 season progresses.

As part of an initiative to recognize the Canadian’s impressive achievement, Xavi Hernandez’s first team squad are scheduled to don a special version of the jersey during their pre-match warm up which features the name ‘DRAKE’ and the number ’50’ on the back.

In a statement on Barca’s website to mark the move, vice-president of the Marketing area Juli Guiu said that the Catalans’ alliance with Spotify “goes beyond a mere commercial relationship”.

“As we have stated on numerous occasions, it is a strategic relationship through which we seek to bring together two worlds that can arouse emotion, namely music and football,” she added.

“This initiative is another example of this desire and the innovative spirit of our collaboration. For the first time in our history, we are replacing the name of our main partner on the front of the jersey with an internationally acclaimed artist in Drake, winner of 4 Grammy awards and record breaker in different categories, such as being the first artist to accumulate 50 billion streams on Spotify.

“This initiative shows our potential to become a unique platform to offer experiences that help bring us closer to our fans while reaching out to new audiences around the world.”

Marc Hazan, who is Spotify’s vice-president of partnerships, explained how the streaming platform “has always said that we want this partnership to be a celebration of fans, players and artists on a global stage”.

“And there’s no bigger stage than El Clasico,” Hazan added.

Barcelona head into football’s biggest club fixture top of La Liga but level on 22 points with their arch rivals after making their best start to a domestic season in five years.
