Kylian Mbappe Wants To Leave PSG In January, Putting FC Barcelona On Alert

Kylian Mbappe wants to leave Paris Saint Germain in January, which puts FC Barcelona and a string of other top European clubs on high alert in hope of landing the French superstar.

Mbappe was expected to join Barca’s bitter rivals Real Madrid this summer until making a U-turn at the last minute.

He signed a three-year contract extension at the Parc des Princes instead, which was said to have come with a £100mn ($110.8mn) signing bonuses while paying him a salary of £1mn ($1.108mn) per week.

Barely two months in the 2022/2023 season, however, MARCA in Spain and RMC in France report that Mbappe’s relationship with the Qatari-backed giants has completely broken down beyond repair.

Sources close to Mbappe’s environment have told MARCA that ‘there is no turning back’. And due to this, the 23-year-old wants to switch allegiances in January and leave the club he joined from AS Monaco in 2017 as a teenager.

Mbappe is said to believe that PSG have “betrayed him” as he thought he would only sign a new contract until 2024, and not 2025.

As was the case in May, PSG’s management may allow Mbappe to walk but only if his next destination is not Real Madrid.

MARCA thinks that this makes Liverpool the only feasible third professional club for Mbappe. But still outfits such as FC Barcelona will be enthused by hearing that Mbappe longs for a change of scenery.

In the midst of the last series of this long-running soap opera, Mbappe was said to have negotiated a possible move to Barca when he was approaching free agency.

The cash-strapped Catalans wouldn’t have been able to offer anything close to the figures that PSG and Madrid can put on the table, however, and Mbappe was also accused of using Barca to pressure Madrid into making a move for him.

Madrid president Florentino Perez is said to have been enraged by Mbappe ditching him at the altar which is another reason that a fresh approach from Los Blancos is unlikely.

With the World Cup on the horizon, though, where France will attempt to defend the title they won in Russia four years ago, Mbappe is reportedly unhappy at the worst possible time.
