FC Barcelona have already met with the representatives of Palmeiras prodigy Endrick with a view to signing the teenage sensation in the near future.
The 16-year-old is the talk of Brazilian football and traveled to Europe to visit a number of top clubs earlier in 2022.
During a trip to the Catalan capital, SPORT claim, Endrick’s team met with Barca’s board to discuss how the youngster can one day don Blaugrana and emulate compatriot greats such as Romario, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Neymar.
During the sit-down, Barca are said to have told Endrick’s reps that they have monitored the player for some time, and that the wonderkid has ticked all the right boxes to become their number one priority in the Brazilian market.
In the medium term, the Catalans believe that Endrick can become an important name on the world stage after having already been called up to Brazilian Serie A leader Palmeiras’ first team despite his tender age.
With Endrick set to turn 18 on July 21, 2024, Barca are already designing a strategy to seal the budding talent who penned a three-year deal with his current Sao Paulo-based employers on his 16th birthday.
His €32mn ($31.6mn) release clause should not act as a deterrent, and is line with what Manchester City handed over in 2016 when relieving Palmeiras of another academy talent in Gabriel Jesus.
Furthermore, it is also cheaper than the €45mn ($44.4mn) that Real Madrid paid Flamengo and Santos for Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo respectively before they came of adult age, with those now proving sound investments considering the pair are mainstays in Carlo Ancelotti’s Champions League and La Liga-winning first team.
Madrid are naturally Barca’s rivals for Endrick’s capture as they were with the mentioned Los Blancos duo.
Learning their lesson from a failed operation to lure Rodrygo, however, after the player’s father gave Barca his word they would join them before having a change of heart, Barca would prefer to negotiate the potential transfer directly with Palmeiras.
Talks on this will take place next summer it is said, with Endrick then arriving at Camp Nou ahead of the 2024/2025 season ready for life as Robert Lewandowski’s heir in the elite.
