Johnny Depp-Amber Heard Defamation Case TV Movie To Premiere On Fox’s Tubi

New scripted TV movie, Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial, from Fox Entertainment’s production studio, MarVista Entertainment, will premiere on September 30th on Tubi.

As reported by TVLine, the film will aim to follow the notorious relationship Johnny Depp and Amber Heard had both in and out of the courtroom. The focus of the piece will be on the two-month trial that the pair concluded on June 1st.

The film will star Mark Hapka (Days Of Our Lives) as Johnny Depp and Megan Davis (American Horror Story) as Heard. The film was written by Guy Nicolucci and was directed by Sara Lohman (Secrets in the Woods). The film was reportedly fast-tracked into production due to the present relevancy of the case and how it impacted society.

Adam Lewinson, Chief Content Officer at Tubi, said on the piece:

Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial has ‘Hot Take’ in the title for a reason. With our partners at MarVista, this Tubi Original was fast-tracked into production to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”

Melissa Marty will portray one of Depp’s lawyers, Camille Vasquez, and reportedly the film will somewhat show her subsequent rise to fame during and after the trial.

The trial finished with what is labelled as a resounding victory for Depp, with a judgment being given that Amber Heard defamed the Pirates Of The Caribbean star in an op-ed in 2018 featured in The Washington Post. Heard has appealed the verdict but the initial ruling stated she must pay Depp around $10.4 million in damages. Heard also won one of her verdicts and is set to receive $2 million in damages from Depp, however, he has also appealed the ruling.

“‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ is one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi,” said Hannah Pillemer, EVP of creative of affairs for MarVista. “Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama.”

The film is executive produced by Brittany Clemons, Angie Day, Marianne C. Wunch, Hannah Pillemer and Fernando Szew. Autumn Federici and Kristifor Cvijetic will represent Ninth House as producers.
