Korean actor Lee Jung-jae has been cast in the new Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte. The Acolyte is a mystery thriller about dark powers emerging in the final days of the New Republic era. Acolytes are those with force abilities who study under an experienced Sith Lord. No information has yet been released about the role Lee will take, although it has been confirmed that he will co-star with Jodie Turner-Smith and Amandla Stenberg.
Lee was already a popular actor in Asia before he appeared in the runaway hit k-drama Squid Game and his performance earned him Screen Actors Guild, Indie Spirit and Critics Choice Awards. Lee signed with the US-based talent agency Creative Artists Agency in 2022. He is best known for his roles in the films The Thieves, The Face Reader, The Housemaid, Along With The Gods, Hunt, and Assassination, plus the TV dramas Sandglass and Chief of Staff.
The Star Wars universe project is being developed by show runner Leslye Headland, who was co-creator of the hit series Russian Doll. Filming was originally slated to begin in Feb. 2022, but is now expected to start in November in London. The first season will consist of eight episodes.
