New Innovation in Ripple Ecosystem
Ripple’s developer arm, RippleX, has restructured XRP ledger’s sidechains as per an update shared by Scott Determan, software engineer in the company. Let’s have a closer look at the update. For the previous few months sidechains were accessible in preview mode for the devs to experiment with token transfers, including XRP. After testing and reviewing the feedback of the community the engineers will present redesigned sidechains, said Determan.
The update explained that the latest XRP ledger sidechains brought an innovation dubbed “federator.” It is a software acting as a bridge to link at least a couple of instances of XRPL. Federator links to the Mainnet of XRP Ledger on one side and to one or more sidechains on the other.
Determan explained about the servers in the post, he said that they are bringing more simplicity for the devs looking to initiate with the sidechains. Moving from a protocol where servers rely on a shared global state among the federator and the witness will make debugging and experimentation simpler, while making sidechains stronger.
The update also revealed the sidechains roadmap. Determan said that they are working on Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) sidechain to enable more developers to get easier accessibility to the feature set of XRPL, and to bring persisting smart contracts based on Solidity written for Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible chains to XRPL. Initial move to make this happen will be a devnet launch, and will release an update regarding it soon.
As a direct response to smart contracts’ demand like on XRP Ledger, the XRPL Labs team has brought Hooks in the game with strategies to deploy functionality to an XRPL sidechain. This will enable the programmability on the smart contracts and XRPL capabilities, which are inexpensive, quicker and kicks out the requirement for Solidity. The company will update the customers during their progress.
The post also mentioned the latest use cases for XRPL such as specialization and experimentation, new XRPL functionality and more stuff for the developers.
