Hitoshi Iwaaki’s original manga Parasyte has sold over 25 million copies in more than 20 territories and countries. The story revolves around invasive life-forms that live off human hosts and fight to grow their power. As they start to disrupt society, a group of humans wage war against the rising evil.
With blockbusters Train to Busan, Peninsula and Hellbound under his belt, Yeon will find himself right at home with the world-building and design demands of Parasyte. Parasyte will also see Yeon reunite with Netflix after working on Hellbound with the streamer in 2021.
To write the screenplay, Yeon has teamed up with Ryu Yong-jae, screenwriter of Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. Ryu’s recent experience in producing a Korean adaptation of the Spanish breakout hit Money Heist will come in handy as the Parasyte team aims to bring a Korean twist to Iwaaki’s manga. WOW POINT as well as Climax Studio, the Korean creative powerhouses behind Hellbound and D.P., will be jointly in charge of the series’ production.
Netflix has shared that actress Jeon So-nee will play Jeong Su-in in Parasyte. She falls victim to a parasite and when it fails to take over her brain, she enters a bizarre coexistence with it. Koo Kyo-hwan plays Seol Kang-woo, who tracks down parasites in order to find his missing sister. Lee Jung-hyun plays Choi Jun-kyung, the team leader of “Team Grey,” a task force battling parasites. Having lost her husband to these invasive life-forms, she devotes herself to their defeating the parasites.
