Nascar Cup Series champion Joey Logano is not going anywhere anytime soon. Team Penske announced on Wednesday the 32-year-old driver re-signed with the organization, agreeing to a “long-term contract extension.”
The news comes exactly one week after Team Penske re-signed Ryan Blaney, who also agreed to remain with the Ford-backed team for several more years.
“Since taking over the No. 22 car at Team Penske, I’ve had the opportunity to accomplish so many of my dreams both on and off the track,” Logano said in a team release. “For the last 10 years, Roger has provided me the resources to be competitive, a team that stands behind me and leadership that is second to none. I’m excited to be continuing our relationship together so we can keep focusing on winning races, more championships and doing what we do for many years to come.”
Logano joined Team Penske in 2013 after starting his Nascar career at Joe Gibbs Racing. He competed with Gibbs at Nascar’s highest level from 2009-2012, replacing Tony Stewart behind the wheel of the No. 20 car.
But with only two wins at JGR, Logano jumped ship. Ever since, he’s become one of Nascar’s top stars, winning 27 races since taking over the No. 22 car, including the 2018 Cup Series championship.
“Over the last 10 years Joey has become such an important part of Team Penske and we know he will continue to be a leader and a winner with the No. 22 Ford team well into the future,” team owner Roger Penske said.
“Joey is a great champion of our sport and we are proud of how he continues to produce for our team and represent all of our partners, including Shell, Pennzoil and Ford. He also brings veteran leadership to our program, serving as a great mentor and teammate to both Ryan (Blaney) and Austin (Cindric). With all he has achieved in his career, he still has a lot left to accomplish with Team Penske.”
The third driver at Team Penske, 2022 Daytona 500 champion Austin Cindric, has not announced an extension yet with the organization. The son of Tim Cindric, the team president, it’s unlikely he will leave the team.
Cindric took over the No. 2 Ford when Brad Keselowski announced he would become a driver/owner with RFK Racing.
