Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, a social networking and virtual reality firm, has announced updates coming to Horizon Worlds, the firm’s metaverse-focused app. Mark Zuckerberg recently posted a photo to celebrate the growth of Horizon Worlds, Meta’s virtual reality platform, into France and Spain. Mark Zuckerberg has been vocal about the scope and adoption of Metaverse.
Zuckerberg broke the announcement in an Instagram post in which he also previewed the platform’s future visual aesthetic.
As he elaborated:
“Major updates to Horizon and avatar graphics coming soon … The graphics in Horizon are capable of much more — even on headsets — and Horizon is improving very quickly.”
Severe Backlash Over Graphics
Some individuals criticized the announcement of Horizon Worlds’ release in Spain and France by saying the avatar selfie used to do so seemed outdated owing to its lack of complex visuals, prompting the company to announce an update in response to the criticism.
Influencers, columnists, and regular users all criticized Meta for the image’s visuals. Others have voiced their disapproval of the firm as well, noting that the images shown are dated.
Zuckerberg replied:
“I know the photo I posted earlier this week was pretty basic — it was taken very quickly to celebrate a launch.”
Meta has been receiving flak for the substantial investments it has made in its Reality Labs metaverse division. Even though the division’s Q2 2022 sales were above $400 million, losses of $2.8 billion were recorded. Earlier this month, the business issued $10 billion in bonds to continue supporting its activities, including the metaverse division.
