The swings keep happening over on Netflix, where we now have the third number one show on the service in as many days. The Sandman briefly reclaimed the #1 spot on the top 10 list from Never Have I Ever after it released a bonus eleventh episode that fans rushed out to watch.
But as expected, once that episode was finished, fans moved on, which has allowed for a new show to take up the top spot, one which has been on the rise since it debuted.
That show is Echoes, a new seven episode limited series starring Michelle Monaghan and Matt Bomer that is reviewing very, very poorly among critics with a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it’s not exactly a huge crowd favorite with a relatively low 62% audience score.
But as ever, scores don’t often mean all that much when it comes to things ascending the Netflix top 10 list, as I’ve seen 0% movies plant themselves on top sometimes, so really anything goes. And in the case of Echoes, it’s a limited series that does not need to worry about a second season pickup, so however well it performs is just a bonus.
Echoes is about “Identical twins Leni and Gina lead double lives, but their choreographed world get thrown into disarray after one of the sisters goes missing.” Also, these twins have switched places for years, adding an additional complication to things. It sounds…a bit goofy, but enough people are interested in the concept to see where it goes. And with just seven episodes total, that run for about 40-45 minutes each, it’s not all that much of a time investment.
Another show worth noting that is working its way up the top 10 list is High Heat, a telenovela that already has 39 episodes and zero critical or audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, from what I can tell. It’s already passed up Never Have I Ever and has reached the third spot on the list, which is a pretty solid rise for a non-traditional offering like this. Though it may also speak to the fact that Netflix doesn’t have much high profile content airing at the moment.
As I said in my post about the top 10 list yesterday, the next show I’m predicting will plant itself at #1 is going to be Selling The OC, the Selling Sunset spin-off, given how popular the original has been on Netflix. In terms of higher profile series, the next “big” one is the return of Cobra Kai on September 9th for its fifth season. Many, they really pump those out fast.
