Jamie Foxx and Netflix
That is until Lili Reinhart came along.
That’s right. The star of Riverdale is the lead in Netflix’s latest romantic comedy/teen drama Look Both Ways. And that movie has stolen away the top position from Day Shift.
Here’s how today’s Top 10 list shakes out:
- Look Both Ways
- Day Shift
- Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn’t Exist
- Uncharted
- Sing 2
- Purple Hearts
- The Informer
- The Gray Man
- Endless Love
- Flight
Look Both Ways stars Reinhart as Natalie, whose life diverges into two separate realities on the eve of her college graduation. In one reality, she becomes pregnant and must navigate motherhood in her Texas hometown. And in the other, she moves to Los Angeles to pursue her career.
Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx had a completely different energy going with Day Shift. Starring actors like Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Snoop Dogg, and Meagan Good, the thriller stars Foxx as a hardworking dad trying to care for his daughter. He uses a boring pool-cleaning job as a front for what he actually does: hunt and kill vampires.
It’s no surprise to see a romantic film nab the top position on Netflix’s popularity charts from an action film. Just earlier this month, in fact, Purple Hearts stole the #1 spot from Netflix’s $200 million action film starring Ryan Gosling, The Gray Man. Throughout 2022, there have been just as many romances hold the top position (like Senior Year, Persuasion, The Royal Treatment) as action films (like Uncharted, Spiderhead, Blade Runner 2049).
This marks the first time Reinhart has been in a movie that made Netlfix’s Top 10 list for movies—let alone hold the #1 position. She has been in two series that have appeared on Netflix’s Top 10 Shows charts: Riverdale and Lucifer. In fact, today marks a rare occasion where an actor plays a leading role in both a show and a movie on the Top 10 list.
So will Look Both Ways continue to hold onto the top spot? Back in 2020, the Foxx film Project Power lost its #1 position to 1BR, only to gain it right back the next day. So let’s see if Look Both Ways has enough hype to pull it off.
