Climate change is awfully strange and unpredictable, or at least the symptoms of climate change can feel that way. In one part of the country, it’s hotter than ever before. In another, flooding. In another, wild winter storms that leave areas unaccustomed to snow buried in white. Elsewhere, terrible droughts ravage farmland and leave streams dry and fauna withered. Animals and humans all pay the price.
Then again, here in my hometown we’ve had the wettest, best monsoon season I can remember, and it’s been cool and mild and wonderful for most of the summer. Will some areas flourish and prosper as the globe heats up, while others burn down altogether or fall into the oceans? Time will tell. Buckle up for a crazy future.
For now, let’s content ourselves with a Wordle. Today’s is a bit of a tricky one, though I got pretty damn lucky. (Or I’m just that good!)
Let’s take a look.
Today’s Wordle #423 Answer, Hint & Clue
Spoilers ahead! You’ve been warned!
The Hint: Please sir, can I have some more?
The Clue: This word has two different vowels.
The Answer:
Well I got unlucky with this one and then I got lucky. My luck changed ever so quickly. I have a bit of whiplash getting this one in just three.
According to Wordle Bot, I only narrowed my choices down to 463 after my first guess—the worst possible outcome for the word hoist. Probably the worst opening guess I’ve ever made, also.
Following that up with crane (mainly to knock out more vowels) ended up being a much better guess, bringing my total possibilities down to a measly 6. These were breed, dryer, freed, freer, greed and gruel.
The one thing that separated the correct answer from all the rest, and the reason I guessed it instead of any of the others, is that it contains the letter ‘U’ and I was trying to think of something to knock out that final vowel. I honestly thought it wouldn’t be right. I just wanted a word with a ‘U’ and since I knew the ‘E’ had to move—and since the ‘C’ was gone when I initially thought of cruel—I guessed gruel for the win!
Lucky, yes. But sometimes good luck follows bad, don’t you forget it.
Happy Tuesday, Wordlers. May the Force of others be with you.
