Topline
Former NFL star Marshawn Lynch was dragged out of his car by Las Vegas police during a recent DUI arrest, body cam footage obtained by TMZ shows, after he repeatedly failed to comply with orders to leave the vehicle.
Key Facts
The video shows Lynch sitting in a damaged black 2020 Shelby GT500 in central Las Vegas as a group of officers approach him.
The officers urge Lynch to get out of the car, but he refuses, even after being warned he could face charges for obstructing an investigation.
After about two minutes of back-and-forth talking, an officer grabs Lynch and pulls him to the ground, where other officers assist in handcuffing him.
After he’s taken to the ground, an officer notes Lynch “does smell like alcohol.”
Lynch was arrested at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and booked for driving under the influence, driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to surrender proof of security and failure to drive in the travel lane, according to KSNV-TV.
It doesn’t appear Lynch has entered a plea yet in response to the charges.
Crucial Quote
“Have you ever seen anybody drive a car like that?” one officer remarks in the video. “He drove it until the fâââ rims came off.”
Key Background
Lynch, 36, is one of the most recognizable running backs of his generation, having played in the NFL between 2007 and 2019, mainly with the Seattle Seahawks. His intense, between-the-tackles running style earned him the nickname “Beast Mode” as he powered his way to five Pro Bowl selections. But Lynch has also faced legal troubles off the field, starting in 2008, when he pled guilty to a charge of hit-and-run in Buffalo, N.Y., while playing for the Bills. He was also arrested in 2012 and charged with DUI in Alameda County, Calif., though prosecutors allowed him to plead down to a lesser charge of reckless driving.
