Over 30 Injured In German Roller Coaster Crash

Topline

Two roller coaster trains at a Legoland in the southern German community of Güenzburg crashed Thursday, injuring over 30 riders.

Key Facts

The Associated Press reported 34 riders were injured and two were in serious condition, citing German outlet dpa, but paper Süddeutsche Zeitung said that number had been downgraded to 31 injured riders and just one with severe injuries.

One train on the Fire Dragon roller coaster—which is one of the park’s major attractions—braked suddenly, causing another to crash into it, the two news outlets reported.

Emergency vehicles, including fire trucks and several helicopters, were deployed to the scene.

The area around the coaster has been blocked off, but the park remains open.

Key Background

This is the second major roller coaster incident in as many weeks in Germany. Last week, a 57-year-old woman died after falling out of a moving coaster at a different park.
