Well, July sure was a busy month. I went to Comic-Con and moderated my first ever panel there (or anywhere, for that matter). I took my kids to Colorado to see Father John Misty at Red Rocks. I read some good books, wrote a few dozen posts and tried to get some hiking in when the monsoons weren’t too bad.
I also spent the first half of the month slowly recovering from a nasty bout of COVID which laid me out for a large part of June.
I have high hopes for August. No trips planned. Hopefully no sicknesses. School starts back up for the kids. My goal is to get back into the gym hard, hit the trails on foot and mountain bike, and focus on getting back in shape after being pretty sedentary since COVID.
I also plan on getting all my Wordles correct after Sunday’s swing-and-a-miss (ouch). That was my first Wordle flub since I began in January, meaning that July was my least lucky Wordle month ever! Not so in August—though today’s word of the day almost got me. Seriously, it was down to the wire on guess #6. Talk about suspense!
Let’s take a look.
Today’s Wordle #409 Hint & Answer
Spoiler warning! In a post that discusses the answer for the daily Wordle, there are spoilers. Obviously. You’ve been warned!
The hint: The fair maiden beat around the bush, batting her eyes in a pretense of shyness, a rosy blush in her cheeks, and spoke to the handsome knight ____ saying, “Fair Sir Thomas, I am but a silly girl who knows not of such worldly, manly things.”
The answer is . . . .
Right, so that’s a tough word. Maybe the toughest word we’ve had in a few weeks of pretty damn tricky Wordles.
I chose break as my opening word because Monday’s episode of Better Call Saul was titled ‘Breaking Bad.’ It eliminated some major letters (one of which I accidentally re-used in guess #2!) but didn’t narrow down my options all that much. According to Wordle Bot I had a whopping 372 remaining. Crime really does not pay!
Scour, despite the errant ‘R’, reduced the remaining choices to just 14 thankfully. Wordle Bot tells me hoist would have been better and that seems pretty obvious in hindsight. Coins was a “solid choice” that cut down the remaining solutions to just 2.
Weirdly, Wordle Bot gave me a big fat ZERO on my next guess, cocky, despite it giving me the ‘Y’ though I suppose I just noticed that the ‘K’ had already been used in break. Oops!
Comfy was better. It was one of the two remaining solutions and by far the most obvious one. In fact, while I thought of it instantly after cocky I struggled to come up with the final answer. You just very rarely hear a phrase like:
The fair maiden beat around the bush, batting her eyes in a pretense of shyness, a rosy blush in her cheeks, and spoke to the handsome knight coyly saying, “Fair Sir Thomas, I am but a silly girl who knows not of such worldly, manly things.”
Have a lovely Tuesday, dearest Wordlers!
