Microsoft Is Making The Xbox Series X|S Even Faster In New Update

Microsoft is shaving five seconds off the Xbox Series X|S boot times in an upcoming update.

The new update was added for members of the Xbox Insider program who have noticed a considerably faster experience on both machines.

The speed boost comes after a rather ingenious tweak: Microsoft simply replaced a longer animation with a shorter one, seeing a 25% speed gain in the process.

It turns out that this update isn’t just speeding up current-gen Xbox consoles. The Xbox One is also seeing faster boot times according to Senior Xbox Product Lead Jake Rosenberg.

The one catch here is that you need to be operating your Xbox in Energy Saver mode to see any speed improvements. If you have your console on Standby mode, it never turns off fully so you don’t ever have to boot it up fully.

Of course, this makes Energy Saver mode just a few seconds more appealing and since you save on energy bills and help make the world a better, cleaner place in the process everybody wins. It’s also now the default setting for Xbox machines, which is cool, though companies like Microsoft and Sony have spent plenty of energy hyping just how fast you can get back into games from standby using quick resume features.
