‘The Dragon Prince’ Season 4 Release Date, Time-Jump, New Scene, Trailer And More

Wonderstorm revealed a ton of new information about The Dragon Prince Season 4 at Comic-Con in San Diego Thursday. I attended the Netflix animated show’s big panel and watched as the show’s creators and some of its cast discussed the upcoming season, showed off the entire first episode, and revealed its release date.

Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about The Dragon Prince’s new phase, The Mystery Of Aaravos.

Season 4 Release Date

There’s not an exact release date yet for Season 4 of The Dragon Prince but we do know that it’s coming to Netflix this November.

Season 3 of The Dragon Prince dropped on Netflix on November 22nd, 2019. It stands to reason that Season 4 will drop at a similar time of the month. Then again, Season 2 came out in February of 2019 and Season 1 came out in September of 2018 so who knows? All three seasons released within about a year of one another and now we’ve waited a full three years for Season 4.

It’s not George R.R. Martin levels of wait-time, but it’s been a long time. The COVID-19 pandemic surely didn’t help. I have high hopes that this new season will have been worth the wait. Better yet, Netflix renewed the entire four season arc that comprises The Mystery Of Aaravos, so we don’t need to worry about a sudden cancellation.

Season 4, just like the past three seasons, will feature 9 episodes.

Season 4 Clip And Surprise Time-Jump

At the end of the epic battle that closed out Season 3, we were given a brief scene of Claudia (Raquel Belmonte) finding her father, Viren (Jason Simpson) and bringing him back to life. This new clip—which happens to be the opening scene of the Season 4 premiere—shows a tiny bit more of that scene:

As you can see, we now know there’s been a two-year time-jump between Season 3 and Season 4. Claudia has spent two years figuring out how to bring her dad back from the dead—and Aaravos, the mysterious Startouch Elf, was a part of the resurrection.

Two years means the characters have aged up a bit, especially Ezran (Sasha Rojen) and Callum (Jack De Sena). The titular Dragon Prince Zym has also grown up a bit, though we didn’t see hide nor hair of the dragon youngling in the Comic-Con panel or the first episode (which I’ll be reviewing shortly here on this blog).

As Callum voice-actor pointed out during the panel, it’s pretty cool that as these characters age, they actually change—including their haircuts:

Season 4 Plot

A lot has changed between Seasons 3 and 4 of The Dragon Prince. Here’s a quick breakdown of where everyone finds themselves. Again, I’ll have a Season 4 premiere recap/review out shortly so I’ll go into more detail about that specific episode then. For now, here’s a ‘Where Are They Now?’ rundown:

• It’s been two years since Season 3 and Ezran has taken the throne of Katolis (and grown a few inches) with Callum taking on the role of High Mage. Soren (Jesse Inocalla) and Corvus (Omari Newton) are the king’s bodyguards.
• Sunfire elf leader Janai (Rena Anakwe) is seeking to rebuild her people and kingdom from the ashes of the Corrupted Core with Amaya (the badass, deaf warrior aunt of Callum and Ezran) at her side.
• Rayla left a year before the events of the Season 4 premiere, off on a mysterious quest that is very, very secretive (but is all about tracking down Viren, who she believes is still alive).
• Zym has grown. Hopefully he’s still as cute as we was before. Also can we get a crossover with The Mandalorian please? I want to see Baby Yoda and Zym flying around together.
• Aaravos has been the dark power lurking in the shadows all this time, but now his plotting moves to the forefront of the story. Claudia has resurrected her father, but unless she can find the ancient Startouch elf’s prison and free him from it in 30 days, Viren will die once more.
• Finally, a new type of Elf will be introduced in Season 4. The Earthblood elves are new to viewers. They come from the Drakewood. The one Earthblood Elf we saw in the Season 4 premiere is named Terry and he’s absolutely charming and lovable. I am already very much on Team Terry.
