One of K-pop’s marquee acts just announced their return and it won’t be long until fans around the world can see them in person.
BLACKPINK shared that they will release new music in August, which will mark their first new material as a group in nearly two years after releasing their full-length project The Album in October 2020. Of course, there has been music from the members, including solo projects from members Rosé and Lisa, who both dropped singles that charted across the world and the Billboard charts in 2021.
The girl group also shared that they will head out on a world tour later this year, marking their first time hitting the road since wrapping up their In Your Area world tour in early 2020 just before COVID lockdowns. The group did bring The Album to life with a live stream concert in 2021 (called The Show which garnered hundreds of thousands of live viewers) and releasing a live album to coincide (Blackpink 2021 ‘The Show’ Live is available to stream now).
While no dates or timelines are available for the upcoming music releases and the tour, no doubt it will mark a big moment for BLACKPINK.
There is a high interest in what BLACKPINK will do after some time away from the studio but increased visibility in the fashion world and new challenges like Jennie developing fashion lines or Jisoo starring in a Korean TV show. When it comes to music, Lisa’s track “Money”—originally a b-side track to her main single “Lalisa”—went viral on social media platforms, gaining U.S. radio play and becoming another Hot 100 hit.
If BLACKPINK can utilize the same excitement and unique strategies seen in the way that “Money” went viral, there’s no doubt the group’s comeback single could be their biggest yet.
