An Update About ‘The Boys’ Season 4 From Karl Urban

The Boys season 3 episode 7 airs today, which may not beat last week’s Herogasm, which was one of the more absurd things in probably the entire history of television, but it’s still pretty good. There’s only one more episode to go before The Boys ends its eight episode season 3, where the past two seasons have been eight episodes as well.

And season 4 is coming, possibly sooner than we thought.

Karl Urban has made news by revealing that with season 3 about to finish airing, season 4 is almost about to start filming (via Collider):

“Yeah, we’re starting I think August the 22nd, we’re going to be starting season four. So I’m getting back, getting my Butcher back on, and I can’t wait. It’s a fun gang to play with, we work hard and play hard, and I can’t wait to see where they take the characters from where we leave them at the end of this season.”

Such a quick start date right after season 3 ends would indicate we should not have another lengthy wait between seasons like we did in the pandemic era that broke up 2 and 3. To recap, we had:

• Season 1 debut July 26, 2019
• Season 2 debut September 4, 2020 (13 months later)
• Season 3 debut June 3, 2022 (21 months later)

Again, season 3 was pushed out like all shows because of pandemic-influenced delays, so if we are getting back to a more normal schedule of filming and production, that should mean The Boys may get here in say, July of 2023. And we also have The Boys’ college-based spin-off coming as well some time in a 2023, but we do not have an exact date yet.

It’s hard to know if Amazon’s version of The Boys will have a fixed end date. The comics had a six year run between 2006 and 2012, but it’s already clear that Amazon wants to turn this into their own Marvel/DC universe between one spin-off and one animated series already. So it would not surprised me if they kept going after the comic ending, or changed it to make that happen. But so far, it’s sticking decently close to the source material.

My guess is that we will see The Boys’ college spin-off in early 2023 and The Boys season 4 by mid 2023, judging by what we know already. And if this season is anything to go on, the potential is there for it to get even better from here.
