Ms. Christine Kim, an analyst at Galaxy Digital, tweeted that the recent “shadow fork” in preparation for the Ethereum merging had not been as effective as expected, according to a tweet. Some flaws have been uncovered by Ethereum developers that might impact the Merge, according to this thread.
Despite the outcome of this week’s shadow fork, devs are optimistic and planning on executing the Merge on their 2nd major testnet Sepolia around Wed, July 6 after the July 4th long weekend in the US.

Rectifying Flaws Before the Testnet Launch
Some developers still believe that the Merge will take place on Sepolia by July 6. According to a Twitter thread, “20% of nodes dropped off right at Merge activation and even more nodes dropped off thereafter” during the shadow fork’s node synchronization difficulties.
Kim said that Erigon and Hyperledger Besu nodes were to blame for the drop-off. Justin Florentine of the Besu team reported that a problem with nodes employing bonsai attempts had existed as far back as April. Because one-quarter of the network validators were running Besu, this defect forced 25% of them to quit.
The Besu team is working on it, according to Florentine. According to the developers, some of the problems were caused by the teams who took part in the exercise not being ready for the planned update. Concerns over Lido’s domination of Ethereum staking have grown as the Merge approaches.
In April 2022, the first “shadow forks” began on the Ethereum network. All teams intending to participate in the next fork have been instructed to address the flaws impacting the exercise ahead of next week’s fork. ETH Prices have rebounded after weeks of downfall, and investors are keeping a close eye on the merger.
