This year’s Halloween Horror Nights event doubles down on the nightmares with The Horrors of Blumhouse, a haunted house that combines two of the studio’s most visceral visions.
The maze, which will terrify guests at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, will feature 2020 horror-comedy Freaky and their latest supernatural thriller, The Black Phone.
The Horrors of Blumhouse, named after the studio behind both movies, will take brave guests to another dimension where they come face to face with fear.
In The Black Phone part of the attraction, they’ll come up against the deranged The Grabber, a twisted children’s entertainer responsible for the disappearances of multiple children whose spirits still inhabit his basement. The only hope is for the tortured souls to help everyone escape and avoid becoming his latest victims.
In Freaky, it’s a race against time to escape the demented serial killer known as The Butcher, a hellish foe cursed by an ancient artifact, the La Dola Dagger, who has switched bodies with a teenage girl. We all know high school can be murder, but that takes on a new meaning as visitors try to outrun her in a bloody game of cat and mouse.
With Freaky having become something of a cult classic and acclaimed The Black Phone, one of 2022’s best-reviewed films, horror or otherwise, The Horrors of Blumhouse will be a massive draw for horror fans. There have been numerous attractions at Halloween Horror Nights over the years featuring such Blumhouse movies and franchises as Us, The Purge, Happy Death Day, Sinister, and Insidious, to name a few.
The Horrors of Blumhouse is the third haunted to be announced for the 2022 event, and the news coincides with tickets for the Los Angeles event going on sale. A range of options will be available, from single passes to Frequent Fear and Ultimate Fear tickets. The previously revealed Universal Monsters: Legends Collide maze and a haunted house inspired by the original 1978 movie, Halloween, have already been met with excitement from fans of the annual events. Tickets and packages for the scary celebration in Orlando were already on sale.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood starts on Thursday, September 8, 2022, and will offer eight mazes as part of the 2022 event. The screams start a few days earlier at Universal Orlando Resort, on Friday, September 2, 2022, where there will be ten haunted houses to experience. Both events will run through Monday, October 31, 2022.
