Emilia Clarke Comments On The Game Of Thrones’ Jon Snow Series

Game of Thrones cast members have gone on to do various things after seeing their profiles skyrocket on the show, but it’s clear at least some of them want to return, if given the chance.

One of those people is not Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, who was asked in a recent interview with the BBC if she’d come back if given the chance (despite her character being dead).

“No, I think I’m done,” she laughed.

But she did have a few things to say about her fellow cast member who is not done, Kit Harrington, who is currently attached to a proposed Game of Thrones sequel series starring his character, Jon Snow, who survived the finale and went to go live in the far north. But it turns out he’s not just attached, he’s intimately involved with creating the series in the first place, according to Clarke:

“He has told me about it. And I know it exists. It’s happening…It’s been created by Kit as far as I can understand, so he’s in it from the ground up. So what you will be watching, hopefully, if it happens, is certified by Kit Harington.”

A Jon Snow sequel series would be tricky because it’s just that, a sequel, which would take place not thousands, hundreds or dozens of years before the events of the main show like many other proposed Game of Thrones spin-off concepts, but in the somewhat immediate aftermath of the White Walker war, Daenerys’ death and Bran being made king.

Jon Snow’s ending was supposed to be somewhat bittersweet, given that he was forced to kill the woman he loved, his aunt Daenerys (still gross!), so he goes to live in relative solitude in the far north, similar to how he started out in the series, even with a potential legitimate claim to the throne itself. But it seems like a new series probably would not let him stay there.

Slowly, various other cast members are being asked about the Jon Snow show, and whether they’d return. Another actor recently asked with Brienne of Tarth herself, Gwendoline Christie, who told Newsweek: “Brienne of Tarth is incredibly close to my heart, and I would relish any opportunity to revisit her. I believe she is enduring.”

While Jon Snow and Brienne were not exactly closely linked, it’s just one of many questions such a series raises, like whether he would be the sole lead, or if we’d start hopping around the map again, which could bring in all manner of surviving characters. But especially, you’d wonder if his siblings would reappear, given that Arya, Sansa and Bran all survived the finale. Sansa, now ruling the North, would seem hard to avoid, as would Bran, leader of it all. Arya is supposed to be across an ocean, which sounds like a more interesting spin-off idea to me, but who knows.

We’ll see if this comes to pass. It’s a big risk for HBO, but it’s clear they are itching for more good Game of Thrones content in the future to recapture some of that lost magic.
