A few months ago, we introduced a new way of experiencing a crypto trading platform. We called it MetaX, a name that echoes the Greek word “metaxy,” which means middle or in-between. The idea is that it’s a portal from a centralized exchange experience into a fully decentralized, Web3 world, where you alone are in control of your crypto.
The name MetaX was a little abstract. Just last week, we changed it simply to “Wallet.” Why? In the new universe of Web3, your wallet is your key to every experience — it’s your spaceship that you dock at any decentralized app — whether it’s a blockchain game, an NFT marketplace, a DeFi protocol, a metaverse or something else.
Exchange vs. Wallet — why we created two modes for OKX
Instead of having a single site or app experience, we wanted our platform to better reflect how the crypto industry actually works — a constant negotiation and balance between the values of decentralization, ownership (aka your keys, your crypto), control, security and usability.
We divided the experience of our products into two modes that you literally toggle between: a centralized exchange mode and a decentralized, Web3 mode.
Exchange mode is where you do everything you might generally associate with a centralized exchange — buying, selling, trading, earning, loaning, etc.
On any centralized exchange, your crypto is under the exchange’s custody by definition. At leading exchanges like OKX, this means it’s protected by a highly advanced wallet-security and risk-mitigation system. But still, you don’t own the keys.
The other mode is, of course, Wallet. Navigating Web3 DApps can be difficult. In OKX Wallet mode, you can discover top DApps for gaming or DeFi; you can mint and trade NFTs aggregated from across all top NFT markets.
And, of course, there’s the wallet itself that connects you to all of these DApps.
Downloadable as a browser extension or integrated directly in your OKX app, OKX Wallet is multi-chain and interoperable, supporting over 20 blockchain networks, including OKC, Ethereum, Polygon and, as of this week, Fantom and AVAX-C.
Most importantly, it’s a fully self-custody wallet, so you don’t have to leave your crypto in your exchange account. You can easily transfer it over to your OKX Wallet and maintain full control over your assets.
What does the OKXWallet offer?
- DEX (swap crypto easily)
- NFT marketplace (mint or trade)
- DApps (GameFi, DeFi)
- Ability to store and manage any type of digital asset (crypto, NFT, utility or governance tokens)
- A self-custody wallet (your keys, your crypto)
We created OKX Wallet to help people navigate the emerging world of Web3 a little more easily.
