We are just two weeks away from the release of Stranger Things season 4 part 2, the final two episodes of the season which will total four hours. One ninety minute episode, and a two-and-a-half hour finale, which I’m not sure I’ve ever heard of before in the history of TV.
One of the breakout stars from season 4 was newcomer Joe Quinn who played Eddie Munson, the leader of the Hellfire Club who is accused of murder until everyone realizes something more sinister is afoot. The showrunners already said one of their regrets was killing off Chrissy, given the chemistry the two of them ended up having, and now, Quinn is talking about what’s to come in season 4 part 2.
Speaking to The Guardian, he had this to say about it:
“I can say there’s a guitar scene and that the scale and ambition are astonishing.”
A…guitar scene? I assume it means that would be him playing it, but what’s he going to play? Black Sabbath? Metallica? A metal cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill? Who knows?
As for the second part of his quote, we already know the last two episodes are supposed to be something to behold. The reason they’re delayed in the first place is because production work had to be finished for them, and they are supposed to have more visual FX work in those two episodes than in the entirety of the already-FX-heavy season 3. And keep in mind no, this is still not the last season of Stranger Things. That would be season 5, which somehow, will probably manager to go even bigger.
Speaking of season 5, he talked about that too, about whether or not he’s returning:
“I’ll be furious if they don’t bring me back. I’d love to, if they’ll have me.”
Now, that would theoretically imply that Eddie survives whatever is about to happen in part 2 of season 4 here, but there are still ways for character to die in return, as we saw with Billy this season when he appeared to his sister. Right now, fans are the most worried about the survival of Joe Keery’s Steve, who was savagely feasted on by Upside Down bat-demons, and many are worried that he’s now poisoned or corrupted in some way that will lead to his death. But we’ll see.
As for Eddie, given that season 5 has not even started production yet, that means the Duffers can absorb how popular his character has been, and write something for him in season 5, even if they weren’t originally planning to. However, I do agree with the idea that Stranger Things is starting to suffer from pretty severe cast bloat, with its refusal to kill of any of the core characters of the series. Even the ones that look like they’re dead, aren’t (Hopper).
We’ll see what’s next for Eddie, but my guess is that he makes it out of season 4 alive and we see him in season 5 next year.
