Michael Myers and Universal Studios go back to where it all began at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios with the announcement of the second maze at the annual event.
Those brave enough will head to Haddonfield, Illinois, in an all-new seasonal attraction inspired by Halloween, the original 1978 slasher classic from director John Carpenter. It will feature at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Resort in Orlando.
The haunted house will recreate some of the most iconic scenes from Halloween as guests make their way through his dilapidated home, trying to avoid becoming one of his victims in the knife-wielding maniac’s relentless and bloody campaign of terror. Can they escape as Michael, described as “the embodiment of pure evil,” silently rages and seeks his revenge?
The acclaimed indie horror, co-written by Carpenter and producer Debra Hill, was made for around $300,000 (although some suggest it was more like $325,000). It went on to gross $70 million and spawned a film franchise. Halloween and the film’s white-masked bogeyman, a murderous escaped psychiatric patient who stalks teenage babysitter Laurie Strode, have become iconic and influential elements in pop culture. Playing Strode made a star out of Jamie Lee Curtis.
Myers is no stranger to Halloween Horror Nights, having featured in several mazes inspired by various entries in the series over the years. The latest film in the Halloween franchise, Halloween Ends, lands in theaters on Friday, October 14, 2022, marking the end of the current trilogy.
The only other maze confirmed for this year’s event is Universal Monsters: Legends Collide. Set in the 19th century, it will see a trio of horror icons, Dracula, The Wolf Man, and The Mummy, in a battle to get their hands on the powerful Amulet of Ra.
There will be a total of eight mazes ready to welcome guests at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood. The event there kicks off on Thursday, September 8, 2022. At Universal Orlando Resort, there will be ten mazes when scare season begins on Friday, September 2, 2022. Both events will run through Monday, October 31, 2022. Tickets and packages for Orlando are already on sale, with passes for the Universal Studios Hollywood terror-bration are expected to be available soon.
