Harry Styles is king of the Billboard charts this week, no matter how one looks at the numbers. His new album Harry’s House is in charge of the Billboard 200, and its lead single “As It Was” is running the show on the Hot 100 yet again. Simply saying that either of these titles sit at No. 1 may be true, but there’s so much more to be said that points out just how massive this frame is for the former One Direction star.
In addition to “As It Was” spending another turn at No. 1, the other 12 songs featured on Harry’s House also find space on the Hot 100, with all of them debuting. In fact, not only does the singer-songwriter claim a lucky 13 spots on the tally for himself, but they are all inside the top 40, which means that every track on his new CD is now a certified proper hit on the ranking of the most-consumed tunes in the U.S.
Three songs from Harry’s House debut inside the top 10 this week, upping his career total considerably. Before this frame, Styles had only managed to send four singles into the highest tier on the Hot 100, and now he’s increased that to seven, almost doubling the total in one fell swoop. The highest-ranking of the bunch is “Late Night Talking,” which has been selected as the second official single from the full-length. That track opens at No. 4, followed by “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” and “Matilda,” which launch at Nos. 8 and 9, respectively.
Before this week, Styles had only charted five top 40 hits in America, including “As It Was,” but now that number has more than tripled. The Grammy winner has now charted a total of 17 songs inside the top 40 region on the Hot 100, a surefire sign that he is only becoming more and more popular as time goes on.
At the same time that “As It Was” rules and every other song from Harry’s House finds its way to the Hot 100, the album itself proves itself to be a blockbuster as well. The CD opens at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with more than half a million equivalent units shifted, which is far and away the largest debut of 2022 (by more than 200,000 copies). It is one of only a handful of titles to hit that mark in a single week in the past year, and it also sets a new record for the largest vinyl sales week ever.
