Channing Tatum is turning The One and Only Sparkella into a feature film. Variety reports the Dog actor will star in the live-action movie based on his children’s book.
The book was released in May 2021 and follows the relationship between a father and Sparkella, a young girl who is imaginative and obsessed with glitter. The One and Only Sparkella debuted at Number 1 on the New York Times best-seller list and was the first of a three-book deal. The One and Only Sparkella Makes a Plan, the sequel, comes out on May 31.
There is no word yet of who will play the titular character, but Pamela Ribon of Moana and Ralph Breaks the Internet, is adapting the book for the film. Tatum took to Twitter to say Ribon “has written some of my favorite animated films.”
Tatum will also serve as a producer through his company, Free Association. The film is part of the first look deal announced last year between Free Association and MGM. Michael Parets, Peter Kiernan, Reid Carolin and Cody Carolin will be joining Tatum as producers. There is no word of who is set to direct.
Tatum has had a busy year. He recently starred in the buddy comedy Dog and the rom-com The Lost City. The films were both commercial successes earning $70 million and $165 million globally respectively. He also directed Dog with Carolin, which was his directorial debut. He is set to appear in the upcoming Pussy Island and Magic Mike’s Last Dance.
Tatum has always been an actor with other talents, most notably dance. However, with recent forays into directing, children’s book writing and producing, Tatum seems to be establishing himself as more than just a box office draw.
