The explosion of NFTs was welcomed with open arms from traders and investors alike as it gave a new meaning to artistic expression even though it was shaped like a monkey.
But there are some who understand the potential that web3 and NFTs present in today’s society and intend on making the most of it to do right by everyone by spreading awareness about critical issues.
“No More” Domestic Violence
Lina Valentina, one of the most prominent feminist artists, spoke in an interview with Cointribune about her NFT collection “No More”, which was designed to inspire courage for women who are still silent while facing such horrors.
The collection will include 7,777 unique NFTs, each representing a female face with the artistic touches that have made Lina Valentina famous (primarily the mouth and the open zipper).
It is on its way to becoming an iconic collection, much like the World of Women NFTs, which gained prominence by highlighting female artists in the web3 ecosystem.
Influencers such as Logan Paul, Alec Monopoly, and Gary Vee also bought NFTs from this collection, pushing this product to the forefront of the leading NFTs.
In fact over the last one month, the world of Women collection has been one of the top 20 most valuable collections generating $7.1 million in volume (3.26k ETH) with each NFT selling for an average price of 7.06 ETH ($15.3k)
Lina herself stated that she owned one of the NFTs that she bought for 8 ETH ($18,426) from the World of Women collection. Thus speaking about the about the unavoidable phenomenon that NFTs and art as a means of expression have been, Lina said,
“NFTs and art seem obvious, a new way for artists to express themselves and be heard. Many artists around me position themselves in the NFT sector.
Unfortunately there are still too few female artists in the field, only 5%. The “No More” series also aims to encourage women to invest in this booming sector.”
Furthermore, considering the potential of the “No More” NFTs, Lina Valentina outlined the stage-by-stage plan planned for engaging the community around the series.
As a first step, a digital gallery will be created in Metaverse, after which 300 lucky owners of a “No More” NFT will get the chance to receive a digital frame worth $800 to showcase their NFTs in the location of their choice.
The third stage concerns the strengthening of the bond between Lina and her fans. Owners of the NFTs will have the opportunity to meet the artist at a special exhibition at The Cool HeArt Gallery in Los Angeles.
Last but not least, in the fourth stage the NFT project will also take on a charitable aspect, as 10% of the income generated by the drop will be donated to Safe Horizon, an association that assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
NFTs bring a change
While Lina intends on bringing revolution in social matters with NFTs, Ukraine achieved the same by bringing a revolution in war aid.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, sympathy and support for the latter country came from all corners of the world. A huge chunk of this support also arrived in the form of cryptocurrencies.
To bolster that effort, a Decentralized Autonomous Organization – Ukraine DAO launched a fractionalized NFT flag of Ukraine, broken down into 3,271 individual units which managed to generate $6.75 million in war aid.
Thus, NFTs will become much more than just collectibles provided they are designed and developed accordingly.
