Kim Kardashian took the stand Tuesday to testify in the $100 million trial brought by her brother Rob Kardashian’s ex-fiancée Blac Chyna against her, along with her sisters Khloé Kardashian and Kylie Jenner and mom Kris Jenner, for allegedly trying to have Rob and Chyna’s reality show canceled and allegedly defaming her.
Key Facts
Kim, 41, testified that she did not remember trying to get Rob & Chyna killed after it ran for one season, though she did request that Chyna no longer appear on Keeping Up With The Kardashians after Chyna allegedly abused Rob, saying “I will not go into a toxic work environment,” according to the Associated Press.
Chyna’s lawyer showed Kim text messages, which Kim couldn’t remember if she sent but said they “sounds like something I would say,” in which the author told a producer that if Rob and Chyna were filmed for Keeping Up, “then you are going to lose the Kardashians and Jenners.”
Kim stated that she uses speech-to-text dictation to write some of her texts, and sometimes the technology would confuse “our” with “her,” making the texts appear as though they were about Rob & Chyna instead of Keeping Up.
Kim said she did not remember whether or not she told network executives about Chyna’s alleged attack on Rob, which Chyna alleged in her suit is something the Kardashians and Jenners did.
Kim will take the stand later in the trial when the defense’s case is presented.
Key Background
Rob & Chyna was a spin-off of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and aired in 2016. It was produced by the same production company as Keeping Up, Bunim Murray, and ran on the same network, E!. The show focused on the tumultuous relationship between Rob, who used to be a fixture on his family’s show before stepping back from the public eye, and Chyna, whose real name is Angela White. Rob and Chyna became engaged and had a daughter together, Dream Kardashian. To complicate Chyna’s relationship with the Kardashian family, during this same time period Kylie dated Chyna’s ex-boyfriend, rapper Tyga, with whom Chyna shares a son. Though Chyna and Rob broke up as the second season was greenlit, Chyna thought the show would continue and believes the Kardashians used their influence to make sure it did not.
Tangent
Kris Jenner testified last week that Chyna had threatened Kylie’s life, and that she heard from Tyga that Chyna once pulled a knife on him. Kris testified she was still rooting for Rob and Chyna’s relationship because it made Rob happy, according to Rolling Stone. Kylie Jenner testified Monday that despite their romantic entanglement, Kylie wanted to have a good relationship with Chyna for the sake of her brother, until Chyna attacked Rob and broke a door and a TV in the process, according to Rolling Stone, a fight that much of the testimony has centered on. Chyna testified that she didn’t hurt Rob, and only damaged the door and TV because he stole her phone and locked himself in a closet with it. Chyna said that she pulled an unloaded gun on Rob and wrapped a cord around his neck “as a joke,” and she did not strangle him and would never shoot him or anyone. When remembering what Rob told Kylie about the fight, Kylie said “he used the words, ‘She was trying to kill me’” and called the incident a “death struggle.”
